We are very fortunate to have a professional opera company in the Charlottesville community, and its success is dependent on support from our Housing Hosts, who welcome our artists and production staff into their homes each year. Our Housing Hosts provide a uniquely warm and inviting experience for visiting artists, many of whom have built life-long relationships with their host families. Our artists come from the most prestigious opera houses in the country, giving hosts an inside look at the next generation of opera professionals.

We hope that you will consider becoming a Housing Host. Our artists require a bedroom, bath, and kitchen privileges; we don’t ask our hosts to provide food or transportation. These accomplished young people make excellent house guests and are happy to house-sit while you are away on vacation. Who knows -you may wind up playing host to the next great opera sensation!

All hosts receive two complimentary tickets to each of our summer performances. If you are interested in becoming a Housing Host, please click here to complete the housing host survey or call (434) 293-4500.

“We always look forward to our musician visitors every summer. We enjoy hearing about their studies and experiences, and it is lovely to have the house full of music. Our teenager’s interest in opera was stoked by conversation with these excellent young musicians. And, of course, we have the pleasure of knowing that we are making it possible for Charlottesville to enjoy our own first-rate opera. The musicians have always been very respectful of our home and our schedule — and have on occasion been kind enough to cat-sit while we were away!”

In the world of opera, “Bravi Tutti” —“Well done Everyone!”—is high praise for excellence. By remembering Charlottesville Opera with a legacy gift, you can ensure that opera and musical theater of the highest caliber will continue to thrive in our community—just as it has since the summer of 1977 in the gardens of Ash Lawn.

You will also provide important educational opportunities: not only to area youth through study programs and performance opportunities, but also to young singers from across the country who participate in an acclaimed Young Artists Program.

Charlottesville Opera has established the BRAVI TUTTI Society to recognize, honor, and thank individuals who have remembered the Opera in their estate planning, either by a provision in their wills or another form of deferred gift:

An outright bequest of cash, securities, real estate, or tangible personal property in your will is one way to benefit Charlottesville Opera. You may indicate a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or a particular piece of real estate or other property.

Charitable Remainder Trusts and Charitable Lead Trusts are types of deferred gifts that may offer tax benefits depending on your situation.

One of the easiest ways to make a planned gift to Charlottesville Opera is by making it the beneficiary of a retirement account such as an IRA, 401(k), 403(b), or other retirement plan. This beneficiary designation can usually be accomplished by simply submitting a beneficiary designation form to your financial institution by mail, fax, or online. Tax savings may be achieved as distributions to individuals from retirement plans can be subject to income tax.

A low-cost way to make a significant gift to the Opera is to make it the beneficiary or owner of a new or existing life insurance policy. If you continue to pay the premiums after the gift of the policy, you can receive an income tax charitable deduction when each premium is paid.

If you have already made a planned gift to Charlottesville Opera, we hope that you will share your intentions with us so that we can welcome you to the BRAVI TUTTI Society. As a Society participant, you will receive invitations to select events and programs and, with your permission, will be recognized in Charlottesville Opera playbills.
